Eagle Colorado

It is believed that the first settlement in the lower Eagle Valley was Dotsero, and it began by accident. The settlement started in 1879 after a couple of prospectors came to what had been Ute hunting grounds. Exploring the Flat Tops above Dotsero, they discovered some lead-silver ore in the form of carbonates. It took a few years for the tales of “rich bonanzas” to spread, and a rush started for the mining camp of Carbonate in the spring of 1883.

Gorgeous mountain scenery and a great year-round climate make the Eagle Valley an excellent choice for living or vacations. There is a variety of recreational activities all year – including skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice fishing, hiking, rafting, lake and stream fishing, golfing, biking and camping. Special events include the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo, traditionally held in late July and early August. Since 1939, Eagle County has presented the annual nine-day Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association rodeo, which has become a western tradition. The incredible scenery includes the Sawatch Range. This 100-mile-long mountain range extends from the Eagle River to Marshall Pass, and has fifteen 14,000-foot summits. Castle Peak is also visible from Eagle, and the 11,275-foot peak resembles, of course, a castle.
