Clifton is considered a suburb of Grand Junction a part of the Grand Junction Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 17,345 at the U.S. Census 2000. Clifton remains a small, unincorporated community. Clifton is worth a visit. The western slope of Colorado is well known for its orchards and vineyards. Outside of town, seasonal fruit stands sell mouth-watering fruit grown on nearby farms.

Also near Clifton, is the scenic Colorado River State Park, a diverse natural area ideal for hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The park includes scenic stops along the Colorado River - Island Acres, Corn Lake, Connected Lakes and Fruita. The unique trail system winds through tree lined riverbanks and offers great fishing and picnic spots. Island Acres, closest to the dramatic Colorado National Monument and the Grand Mesa, is great for camping along the river.
